Edouard Hue
Choreographer
Edouard Hue is a choreographer who puts his physicality at the service of pure movement. As a performer, he experimented with extremes with choreographers Hofesh Shechter, Damien Jalet and Olivier Dubois. He quickly developed his own distinctive style, a blend of mastered virtuosity and mischievous spontaneity. He was awarded the Prix Suisse de Danse 2019 as “Outstanding Dancer”.
His choreographic approach is defined by the concept of “sensitive virtuosity”, characterized by incisive, concise movements that express themselves through fluid, agile dynamics, while letting palpable emotions shine through. His ability to make the air vibrate and create a connection between performers and audience fosters a collective trance-like experience for spectators.
In 2014, he founded in Geneva in Switzerland his own company, the Beaver Dam Company, where he affirms his vision of dance as a quest for freedom and pleasure.
At the beginning of his career, he received support from Pro Helvetia – Swiss Arts Council, which enabled him to establish a mentorship with Olivier Dubois for his creation “Meet Me Halfway”. His solo “FORWARD” is part of the Dance & Dramaturgy Program launched by Philippe Saire at Théâtre Sévelin 36, and he is artist-in-residence at L’Auditorium Seynod – Scène Régionale Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, from 2016 to 2020. His choreographic creations are widely recognized on the international scene, and have received critical acclaim around the world.
In 2021, the premiere of “All I Need”, performed by nine dancers at the Cannes Dance Festival, marked a decisive turning point in his career.
In 2023, he creates “DIVE” for his Beaver Dam Company, a work that highlights his unique choreographic writing, linking sensations and aesthetics through his dance and the use of glittering carpets.
Edouard Hue has also been commissioned by renowned companies to create works such as “Requiem” by Yoann Bourgeois, in which he composed the “Domine Jesu” section (Grenoble), “No Matter” for the Gauthier Dance Company (Stuttgart), “Titan” for Ballet Basel (Basel) and “L’Oiseau de Feu” in 2023 for the Grand Opéra d’Avignon. In July 2024, he is invited by Angelin Preljocaj and Laurent Hilaire to create “Skinny Hearts” for the Bayerisches Ballet in Munich.
