Skinny Hearts explores the human experience in the face of adversity, taking as its starting point the image of an endless, silent winter. This palpable cold, a metaphor for physical and emotional hibernation, becomes the breeding ground for a transformation where an individual creates a new dynamic. The piece opens with a sense of immobility, where abandoned bodies struggle to find new momentum.
The choreography relies on an initial formal simplicity, evolving like a Rubik’s Cube, where each facet reveals complex textures and emotions. This moving and articulated spatial structure dialogues with Jonathan Soucasse’s pre-composed music, acting as a guide for the development of movements.
With the dancers of the Bayerisches Ballet, who come from a classical background, a “meeting point” was found between academic technique and a more contemporary choreographic language. This collaboration brings to life precise gestures, marked by a quality of articulation, where each movement expresses an emotion and invites the audience into an intimate dialogue.
The atmosphere of the piece, evoking snowy landscapes under a full moon, is amplified by Christian Kass’s lighting. These images evoke an environment that is both hostile and poetic, where body and space connect in a constant tension between immobility and movement.
Skinny Hearts is a quest for extremes – an exploration of physical and emotional limits, where assertion and fragility meet. The piece concludes on a note of introspective calm, emphasizing the importance of finding a balance between perseverance and rest, echoing Edouard Hue’s own artistic journey.
